Oriental languages university soon

• The State government will soon approach the Hyderabad-based English and Foreign Languages University (EFLU) seeking its cooperation in setting up a full-fledged university for oriental languages in the State.
• The government's initial plan was to start a new university for Arabic learning and research

Lokbhoomi to come out with special issue on Kotnis

• Goan publication Lokbhoomi will release a special commemorative issue on the life and works of Dr. Dwarkanath Shantaram Kotnis
• Dr. Kotnis, then 28, went to China as a member of the Indian medical team to assist that country during the Japanese aggression in World War II.
• Besides giving meticulous treatment to the wounded and patients, he paid much attention to training Chinese medical workers. Eventually, he brought on illness by overwork and died on December 9, 1942 in China. Dr. Kotnis is a legend in China.
• The year 2011 being Dr. Kotnis' birth centenary year

Rajasthan seeks special status

• The Rajasthan government on Sunday sought special status for the State in view of its difficult geography and a package for drinking water considering the shortage caused by recurrent droughts, scanty and irregular rainfall.
• Rajasthan was one of the leading States with an “impeccable track record” of having achieved the financial parameters as well as the targets of the 11th Five-Year Plan.
