What is ICAR:
Indian Council of Agricultural Research is the apex body for co-ordinating, guiding and managing research and education in agriculture including horticulture, fisheries and animal sciences in the entire country. With 97 ICAR institutes and 53 agricultural universities spread across the country ICAR is one of the largest national agricultural systems in the world.
Agricultural Scientists Recruitment Board (ASRB) is an an independent recruitment agency which conducts ARS exam (besides others), to recruit posts in the ARS of Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR).

ICAR ARS Scientist Selection Process:
Selection process for the Scientist positions through ARS exam in ICAR consists of a two phase written exam (Prelims & Mains), followed by Interview. The ARS Prelims is for screening purpose only and only the marks you score in ARS Mains and Interview will be used for preparing the final merit list.
Eligibility for ICAR ARS Exam:
Age Eligibility: (as on 01.08.2012)
Min: 21 years, Max. 32 years. Relaxations exist as per Govt. rule for reserved categories as well as for in-service ICAR candidates.
Academic Eligibility: (as on 31.10.2012)
Minimum Master's degree or equivalent in the concerned subject with specialization.
