  • Parts of the Cauvery river system could witness a reduction in water yield by as much as 30 per cent in the near term (2021–2050) and by 50 per cent in the long term (2071–2098), finds a research paper published in the latest edition of Current Science.
  • While most rivers are projected to see an increase in flooding by 10 to 50 per cent in the near term scenario, the sub-basins of the Cauvery, the Ganga, the Brahmaputra, the Krishna and the Pennar show a decrease in the “peak flow”, finds the paper that quantifies the impact of climate change on the water resources of all major Indian river systems.
