- · The Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court has issued notices to the Centre and Uttar Pradesh governments on a writ petition for quashing a notification for land acquisition in the newly set up district Chhattrapati Shahuji Maharaj Nagar for district headquarter, which had acquired 36 hectare land on May 9 this year for offices and residential complexes.
- · The Prime Minister's Economic advisory panel (PMEAC) has exuded confidence that the economy would expand by 8.2 per cent in the current fiscal. Agriculture sector the growth rate would cross 3 per cent during the year.

- · Assam Government has decided to undertake adult vaccination against Japanese Encephalitis in the most endemic Sibsagar district on an experimental basis. It was for the first time in the country that an adult vaccination programme was being undertaken, a similar vaccination programme for Japanese Encephalitis was done in Nepal, which proved to be successful, since India and Nepal share similar climatic conditions, the programme will be successful in Assam also.
- · A Parliamentary Panel has recommended the Railways to fill up the large number of vacant posts , which is over 1 Lakh 66,000 vacancies in Group C and Group D , on a priority basis in view of the security scenario in the country. The Committee also expressed its unhappiness over the representation of women employees in Railways.
- · The Bihar government has decided to impose professional tax to all salaried persons, professionals or self employed working in the state having an income of more than 3 lakh, from the next month.
- · Former Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh Mr.K.Rosiah will be sworn in as the 24th Governor of Tamilnadu today. He said that the State of Tamilnadu symbolizes peace and prosperity.
- · The government has entered into an agreement with University of Melbourne to address the problem of mental health in the country and the treatment gap on it and thus can be scaled up to increase access to effective care for people with mental illness.
- · As clean-up efforts continue in the eastern United States in the wake of Hurricane Irene, the next tropical Atlantic storm , Katia-Category three storm, has already formed.

- · In Assam, the process to set up the first integrated tea park of the North East region has been initiated. It will provide infrastructure of international standard and the state of the art facilities, such as processing, warehousing, auction centre, blending and packaging, and generate employment. North East contributes 55 percent of the country’s total tea production.
