The decision to establish the strategic economic dialogue, similar to the mechanism that exist between Bejing and Washington was taken during the visit of Chinese premier Wen Jiabao in December 2010. The Minister was asked to comment on the recent incursions by Chinese troops in Ladakh and the objection raised by it over oil exploration by Indian companies in South China sea .

- · Veteran Kannada Poet, and Former-vice chancellor of Hampi Kannada University Dr. Chandrashekhara Kambar has been selected for the 2010 Jnanpeeth award. The country's highest literary honour instituted in 1961. He has become the eighth Kannadiga to have won the award. Among those from Karnataka, who have bagged the award include Kuvempu, D. R. Bendre, Shivaram Karanth, Masti Venkatesh Iyengar, V.K.Gokak, Girish Karnad and U.R.Ananth Murthy.
