National dairy plan to be announced in six months
- The Rs.1,584 crore project is funded by the World Bank. It would empower dairy farmers in the country
- In the XI Five Year Plan, a total of Rs.2 lakh crore was allocated to the agriculture and its allied sectors. Similarly, under the Rastriya Krishi Vikas Yojana substantial financial support was allocated to the State Governments. However, a major share had gone to agriculture sector and animal husbandry and dairy sectors were provided with inadequate allocations
- there was a severe shortage of veterinarians and the demand for veterinary services both quantitatively and qualitatively is increasing due to increase in the demand for livestock products
“No pressure to privatise Ordnance Clothing Factories”
- The 39 Ordnance Clothing Factories (OCF) functioning in the country will not be privatised
- In the last couple of years 16,000 employees were recruited by the Ordnance Factory Board. Similarly, another 25,000 to 30,000 people would be recruited in the next five to six years.
- There is huge growth potential for the Cloth Factories as the Ordnance Board had acquired orders to the tune of Rs.50,000 crore for all its factories in the next five years. The Ordnance Factories were coming up with several new products required for the Defence Services
- Already, the Ordnance Factories have indigenously made a Bofors gun, which is an improvised one with a range of 40 km. The range of earlier procured ones would be 27 km.
‘Implement Sachar, Mishra reports'
- Sharad Pawar on Saturday called for implementation of the recommendations of the Sachar Committee Report on the Status of Muslim Community of India and the Ranganath Mishra Commission Report on Religious and Linguistic Minorities.
- He wanted the Commission for Equal Opportunities to be set up expeditiously and sought review of the Wakf Act to ensure that all encroachments on Wakf land were removed.
- National Commission for Religious and Linguistic Minorities, also called as Ranganath Misra Commission was constituted by Government of India on 29th October 2004 to look into various issues related to Linguistic and Religious minorities in India. It was chaired by former Chief Justice of India Justice Ranganath Misra. Main Findings of Commission are: 15% of jobs in government services and seats in educational institutions for minorities; and reserves 8.4% out of existing OBC quota of 27% for minorities
- The report is first of its kind revealing the backwardness of Indian Muslims, according to Sachar Committee report some of the major concers are:
Distressed farmer burns crop
- Anjaiah went for gooseberry (amla) crop in 2003 and has since been investing on it, but incurring losses every time. As the yield was not up to the expected level this year too, he has burnt his crop.
- This is not the first time that the farmers have burnt their crop, but it indicates the severity of the stress and irritation faced by them in the face of the prevailing drought conditions.
- However, a major part of crop will be lost if the there are no rains in the next one to two weeks
- The farmers are demanding an input subsidy of Rs. 15,000 per hectare so that they can go for next sowing.
