  • ·         Australia's ruling Labor party today backed Prime Minister Julia Gillard's bold move to overturn a long standing ban on uranium sale to India despite the country being a non-signatory to the NPT after a heated discussion on the issue as it would boost trade and enhance Australia's relationship with India. Gillard said any agreement to sell uranium to India would include strict safeguards to minimise proliferation risks. Earlier the labor party in Australia had opposed the conservative party led by than Prime Minister John Howard who had been supportive of such an initiative.
  • ·         Bollywood's evergreen star Devanand(88yrs, Dada Saheb Phalke award winner) died following cardiac arrest.
  • ·         In Andaman and Nicobar islands, the Navy day is being celebrated with befitting programmes at carbyn’s cove beach, Port Blair.
  • ·         In Egypt, the Islamist Muslim Brotherhood will not favor imposing strict Islamic codes on the people as it would not sacrifice personal freedom while promoting Islamic laws in the country.
  • ·         Belgium won the Champions Challenge Hockey tournament beating India in the final at Johannesburg in South Africa. In the semi-final played yesterday, India beat hosts South Africa. (thanks friends for rectifying my mistake.. I'll try not to repeat it again.)
