  • ·         Anna Hazare began his three-day fast in Mumbai today demanding a strong Lokpal bill.
  • ·         The Government today presented three bills in the Lok Sabha: The Prevention of Money Laundering (Amendment) Bill, 2011 (to strengthen the relevant Act of 2002 by amending some of its provisions), The Electronic Delivery of Services Bill, 2011 (to provide for electronic delivery of public services by the government to ensure transparency, efficiency, accountability, accessibility and reliability in the delivery of these services) and The Constitution (Scheduled Tribes) Order, 2011 (to further amend the relevant legislation of 1950 and to modify the list of Scheduled Tribes in Karnataka).
  • ·         The government assured that India's long term interests in climate change will be protected and made it clear that New Delhi will not undertake legally binding commitments on absolute greenhouse gas emission reduction target, thus committed to the Socio- Economic development of country.
  • ·         The Comptroller and Auditor General of India today presented the Performance Audit Report on sale and distribution of imported pulses in both Houses of Parliament. It said that both the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution and the Ministry of Commerce and Industries are failed to work out a detailed distribution strategy for the imported pulses as decided by the Committee of Secretaries and thus the pulses were not made available to the public. 
  • ·         Lok Sabha Speaker paid glowing tributes to Mahamana Madan Mohan Malviya on 150th birth anniversary today and recalled his contributions in the national freedom movement and in the field of education. Meanwhile, Dr. Manmohan Singh announced that a Centre for Malaviya Studies will be set up at the Banaras Hindu University apart from establishment of scholarships and education related awards in his memory, and UPA chairperson released a biography of Madan Mohan Malaviya. Malaviyaji (4 times elected president of INC) wanted the youth of India to benefit from an integrated education that incorporated modern scientific knowledge, practical training ethical stander studies. In order to get free education and rid from untouchability, he established women's University in Banaras Hindu University to build-up conscience among people.
  • ·         Kerala Assembly celebrated its diamond jubilee functions.
  • ·         Assam has recorded 50 per cent increase in rate of vaccination of mother and child during last two years following introduction of the programme called  ‘Ships of Hope’ under the National Rural Health Mission on P-P-P mode. A Boat Clinic termed as “Ships of Hope” for the riverine people consist of the space for outdoor patient, doctor’s cabin, medicine chest, kitchen, general store, toilets, a generator set and a 200 litre water reservoir. Besides ante-natal, post-natal and general check ups, immunization of children against Japanese encephalitis and emergency preparedness and response in case of flood situation are being carried out by these boat clinics.
  • ·         A team of 50 Arab League Observers has arrived Syria. It consists of politicians, lawmakers and military officials and will split themselves into ten groups for different cities. Their mission is to monitor the implementation of League mediated peace plan in cities in phased manner.
  • ·         Sita Jena of Odisha won two gold medals in the national Weightlifting Championship being played at Brahampur in Odisha.
