A Machine That Gives Shape to Your Ideas:

  • Three Dimensional Printing (3DP) technology was developed at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology
  • The process is similar to the Selective Laser Sintering (SLS) process, but instead of using a laser to sinter the material, an ink-jet printing head deposits a liquid adhesive that binds the material.
  • 3D Printing offers the advantage of fast build speeds, typically 2-4 layers per minute. However, the accuracy, surface finish, and part strength are not quite as good as some other additive processes.
  • Materials:  Ferrous metals such as Stainless steel; Non-ferrous metals such as Bronze; Elastomers; Composites; Ceramics
  • Applications:  Concept models, Limited functional testing, Architectural & landscape models, Color industrial design models, Consumer goods & packaging
  • 3-D printer offers the possibility of manufacturing products in the home almost as easily as printing a document with an inkjet printer.
  • The Thing-O-Matic machine moves in three dimensions to spray layers of colored plastic to form objects, some quite intricate.
  • While the following machine uses plastic, other 3-D printers can create objects made of metals and other materials.
