Gopal Gandhi is Chairman of Kalakshetra Foundation
- The former West Bengal Governor, Gopalkrishna Gandhi (Grandson of M.K.Gandhi), has been appointed Chairman of the Kalakshetra Foundation
- Mr. Gandhi, over a 24-year tenure in the Indian Administrative Service
- Kalakshetra is a cultural academy dedicated to the preservation of traditional values in Indian art, especially in the field of Bharatanatyam dance and Gandharvaveda music.
- The academy was founded in January 1936 by Rukmini Devi Arundale.
- Indian Parliament recognised the Kalakshetra Foundation as an 'Institute of National Importance'
UPSC to reform Civil Services (main) exam
- The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has constituted a high-powered committee to suggest changes in the pattern of this examination.
- In six decades, UPSC has selected nearly quarter of a million candidates after examining over 46 million applicants. This is equivalent to the population of South Africa or England.
- Agrawal agreed, pointing that the commission was looking at other examinations to bring them in tune with the present scenario of country’s development and aspirations.
- the commission had recommended an alternative system to the government to improve the process of induction of civil service officers from different streams into the All India Service.
