Smoking scene ban is very much in force, says Ministry
- Bezawada — Vijayawada is better known by that name — is the first feature film to carry health warnings on every smoking scene, as required under the just notified second amendment of the Rules of the Cigarette and Other Tobacco Products (Prohibition of Advertisement and Regulation of Trade and Commerce, Production, Supply and Distribution) Act, 2003.
- While the Ministry cited Bezawada as an excellent example of best practice, it is “angry and annoyed” at a news report, carried in The Times of India on Tuesday, claiming that the government had put the smoking scene ban on hold.
- Insisting that the story was wrong, highly reliable sources told The Hindu that the notification was completely valid and it had been sent to the Law Ministry for an opinion as it had been cleared by it before being issued.
Won't remove material just because it's controversial: Google
- Amid the raging controversy over content regulation online, Internet search giant Google India on Tuesday said it complied with the law of the land but would not remove any material just because it was controversial.
- Social networking site Facebook, which has more than 25 million users in the country, has said it would remove any content that was hateful, threatening and incited “violence” or contained nudity off the service.
- The statement added: “We want Facebook to be a place where people can discuss things freely, while respecting the rights and feelings of others, which is why we already have policies and on-site features in place that enable people to report abusive content.”
