Miffed activists to submit their own report on ‘violations' by NICE
- Miffed with the Government for allegedly dragging its feet before the Supreme Court in the Nandi Infrastructure Corridor Enterprises (NICE) case, activists seeking the indictment of the company for alleged land grab have decided to submit an independent report to the Government.
- They plan to pressure the Government to use their report as part of the submissions which are to be made before the Supreme Court in the case where NICE has been accused of land grab.
- Bangalore – Mysore Infrastructure Corridor (BMIC) also called NICE road is a 4 to 6 lane private tolled expressway that connects the two important cities of Bengaluru and Mysore
- South Bangalore has been experiencing severe traffic congestion.
- This hi-speed fenced high-way was envisioned to help with this congestion.
Karnataka now third in sugar production
- Karnataka has now emerged as one of the top sugar producing States in the country, after Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh.
- Even sugar recovery has improved dramatically, and Karnataka now stands second, after Maharashtra. Sugar recovery is the yield of sugar for every tonne of sugarcane crushed in factories.
- The sugar year commences in October and ends in September.
- It was only some years ago that the State overtook Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.
Aluminium firms on expansion mode
- Three companies — Vedanta, Hindalco and Nalco — propose to expand their capacities to tap the huge potential for growth of the aluminium industry.

- The total investment for expansion would be Rs.60,000 crore and 75 per cent of the amount was already spent.
- Although it was exporting, bulk of its production was meant to meet the domestic demand.
