Temporary setback for Kawal Wildlife Sanctuary
- Efforts to upgrade Kawal Wildlife Sanctuary (KWS) in Adilabad district as a tiger reserve has suffered a temporary setback
- The stiff opposition to the project by tribal people is being seen as a failure of the government in convincing them about its plans.
- KWS have been offered two options as relocation compensation package.
- The first option consists of direct monetary compensation to the tune of Rs. 10 lakh per individua
- The second option will have the government purchasing cultivable land, house sites and making other arrangements for the families.
- Formation of the tiger reserve will result in better protection of forests that in turn will revive degraded areas and bring precious income to tribal people
- The Kawal Tiger Reserve will be 42nd of its kind in the country and the first in Telangana.
