Efforts to upgrade Kawal Wildlife Sanctuary (KWS) in Adilabad district as a tiger reserve has suffered a temporary setback
The stiff opposition to the project by tribal people is being seen as a failure of the government in convincing them about its plans.

KWS have been offered two options as relocation compensation package.
- The first option consists of direct monetary compensation to the tune of Rs. 10 lakh per individua
- The second option will have the government purchasing cultivable land, house sites and making other arrangements for the families.
Formation of the tiger reserve will result in better protection of forests that in turn will revive degraded areas and bring precious income to tribal people
The Kawal Tiger Reserve will be 42nd of its kind in the country and the first in Telangana.
