Don't be lenient with rash drivers: Supreme Court
- Considering the increased number of road accidents, the Supreme Court has, on several occasions, reminded the criminal courts dealing with the offences relating to motor accidents that they cannot treat the nature of the offence under Section 304A of the IPC [causing death by negligence] as attracting the benevolent provisions of Section 4 of the Probation of Offenders Act, 1958.
DGCA pulls up more airlines
- The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), which had pulled up Kingfisher and State-owned Air India's international budget carrier, Air India Express, for ignoring safety requirements
- The aviation regulator has rapped airlines such as IndiGo, SpiceJet, Jet Airways, GoAir, Alliance Air and JetLite for issues such as non-reporting of incidents, lack of pilots, proper and regular training, absence of qualified safety officials and non-compliance of safety audits.
- While cargo carrier Blue Dart does not have a dedicated channel for two-way communication for aircraft, JetLite does not possess the software to monitor the Digital Flight Data Recorder (blackbox) and GoAir has not carried out engineering audits, a mandatory safety requirement.
