· Three convicts in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case are to be hanged on September 9^{th. After twenty years of the assassination and 11 years after the submission of the petitions,t he three convicts Santhan, Murugan and Perarivalan have been officially informed yesterday that their mercy petition to the President of India has been rejected.}

Chidambaram today laid the foundation stone of an Integrated Check Post at Petrapole border along Bangladesh at North 24 Pargana district in West Bengal. 13 Integrated Check Posts in the country out of which seven will be along Indo-Bangladesh border. Itrovide facilities like immigration, customs, quarantine and smooth cross-border movement of persons, goods and transport under one umbrella.}
