- · Social activist Anna Hazare ended his fast this morning on the 12th day after Parliament unanimously agreed in principle with his three demands to deal with corruption. Outlining his future agenda, he emphasized reforms in election and education systems and working for the betterment of farmers and labourers.
- · Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has announced that all those arrested youth involved in stone pelting will be released on the eve of Eid ul fiter.
- · The Bihar Government has decided to recommend a CBI probe into alleged irregularities in the recruitment of constables and Sub-Inspectors in 2004.
- · The government has decided to set up 13 Integrated Check Posts ICP on India’s borders with Bangladesh, Nepal, Pakistan and Myanmar. The project is likely to be completed by January, 2013.
- · Islamabad has agreed to grant the Most Favoured Nation (MFN) status to India in return for lifting the non-tariff restrictions on imports from Pakistan.
- · National Security Adviser Shivshankar Menon arrived in Dhaka today by a special flight on a two day visit to Bangladesh. Officials will be focused on the various agreements to be signed during the visit of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to Bangladesh.
- · High winds and torrential rain have begun to lash New York as hurricane Irene moves up the east coast of the United States. Covering about nine hundred kilometer area.
- · The Arab League has decided to form a ministerial committee to help solve the crisis in Syria. The committee, which includes members from Jordan, Tunisia, Qatar and Oman as well as the Arab League chief, will visit Damascus.
- · Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez is to undergo a third round of chemotherapy in his country today for treating his cancer.
- · Five people were killed and at least 27 injured when a tram derailed in the Brazilian city of Rio de Janeiro. It was tragedy which would hurt tourism in the city. Opened in 1896, Rio's tram is one of the oldest electrical tram systems in South America.
- · Scientists claim to have achieved a major breakthrough in the fight against Type 1 diabetes by developing a treatment which would save the sufferers from a lifetime of insulin injections. The new treatment, condemned “DiaPep277”,hit the markets within three years.
